Marilyn Gates is a poet from the U.S. She earned her B.A. in English with an Emphasis in Creative Writing from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. There, she served as an Associate at The Kenyon Review and founded Writers After Class at Kenyon (WACK), a student organization which hosts writing sessions across campus at varying times and places.

Recipient of a 2024 Academy of American Poets College Prize and the Kenyon English Department’s 2025 Robert Daniel Memorial Scholarship, Marilyn also received a Fall 2025 Franklin Miller Award. In addition, she is a 2025 Bucknell Seminar for Undergraduate Poets Fellow and a Semifinalist for the 2025 Adroit Prize for Poetry.
